A sporting target rifle comprises a barrel 1 secured to a cartridge receiving means 2 and an elongated portion 6 mounted with clearance in a butt 3 and connected at its ends to the cartridge receiving means 2 and a shoulder piece 4. In the construction shown a forearm 5 in screwed to a bracket 10 of the cartridge receiving means. The shoulder piece 4 is connected to the elongated portion through a flange and split holder assembly, the split holder being clamped about the recoil assembly by screws 17. The rifle is also provided with a rear sight 8 and a foresight 7.
