Abstract

629,224. Automatic firearms. PELO, C. May 21, 1941, No. 6547. [Class 92 (ii)] The breech-block 3 receives an accelerating movement both during the forward and the backward movements of a carrier 2, by means of a member 5 which is pivoted on the carrier and which is locked, after acceleration has taken place in a rearward direction, by a pawl 6 also pivoted on the carrier. The carrier shown forms an extension of the barrel 1, and on recoil it carries the member 5 rearwardly until an arm 9 on the member enters a notch 11 in a fixed casing 4. The member 5 now pivots and thus accelerates the breech-block, and a spring 13 moves the pawl 6 to the locking position. In this position of the parts the barrel extension is locked in its rear position by the member 5, and a nose 16 of the pawl is in the path of the breech-block. When the latter returns to the closed position it rotates the pawl which releases the member 5 and the barrel extension now returning to its forward position enables the member 5 to give a forward acceleration to the breech-block. In a modification the pawl and member 5 are arranged on a frame connected to the gas piston of a gun with a fixed barrel. Specification 399,714 is referred to.
