Loading-appliances. - Relates to ammunition loading and ramming apparatus of the kind in which the rammer is automatically operated by a recuperator energized during recoil, such operation being timed to suit the movements of the loading tray. According to the invention, the space occupied by the rammer at the rear of the gun is reduced by making the final part of the ramming movement a pivotal one effected by a cam interposed in the path of the rammer by the transverse loading movement of the loading tray. The rammer E, pivoted on the rear end of the piston-rod D of a hydro-pneumatic recuperator F, recoils with the gun A, and is retained in the recoiled position by a spring-pin d engaging behind a guide-rail b. The movement of the loading-tray C into line with the breech opening operates through gearing G, G<1>, G<3> to rock a toothed sector H, the movement of which first raises a cam I into the path of a roller e<1> on the rammer and then, through rods H<1>, H<2>, releases the pin d. The ammunition is then rammed from the tray C by a rectilinear movement of the rammer, until the roller e<1> engages the cam I to make the last part of the movement, a pivotal one about the pin e. The movement of the loading- tray away from the gun lowers the cam I, the part i<2> of which rocks the rammer back to the upright position.
