Abstract

Breech actions, revolving-chamber.-Consists in constructing a recoil-operated revolver in such a manner that, when the weapon is discharged, only the cylinder recoils, and not the barrel also, as in previous types. The cartridges are supported at the back by an abutment 3 carried by the revolving cylinder and moving with it. The firing-mechanism, which may be of any of the types usually adopted in automatic pistols, is lodged either in the butt or in a piece 6 carried by the recoiling abutment 3. Rotation of the cylinder is caused during its to-and-fro movement by any suitable means, such as spiral grooves, or a spring pawl 9. When the cylinder is in its forward position, the mouth of the chamber fits over the rear end of the barrel and thus makes a gas-tight joint. The Specification, in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also a modification in which, after the firing of a shot, the revolving cylinder is held in its rearmost position until the trigger is pulled for the next shot, the forward movement of the cylinder operating the percussion mechanism. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
