Abstract

20,367. Whiting, W. J. Sept. 1. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; sights. - Relates to automatic guns having twin spiral return springs, and consists mainly (1) in utilizing the guide-rods of the springs as ejectors, and (2) in providing an auxiliary abutment for retaining the springs in the breech-block when the gun is disassembled, this abutment being utilized as the back sight. The guide - rods 35 project, as shown in Fig. 2, through holes in the breechblock 22 and strike the base of the cartridge case, when the breech-block is in its recoiled position. The auxiliary abutment consists of a detachable plate 31, Figs. 1 and 8, at the rear end of the breech-block. The rear sighting-notch 42 is formed in this plate.
