Machine guns.-Relates to guns of the type in which the barrel GB moves forwards on discharge, a fresh cartridge being loaded between a fixed abutment B and the firing- chamber as the barrel returns under the action of a spring S. According to the invention, the forward movement of the barrel is produced by the combined static and dynamic pressures of the explosion gases acting in a chamber D formed round the barrel and having its wall GB' movable relatively to the other wall C<1>, so that when these walls are separated, the gases may escape in any radial direction. The wall GB<1> is formed in a member screwed to the gun barrel, and the wall C<1> forms the front of a fixed casing C. The firing-pin B' is operated through a lever B' by the contact of the barrel with a projecting pin B'.
