Abstract
139,775. Bradford, T. J. Oct. 29, 1918. [Convention date]. Ordnance, multi-charge; discharging by means external to breech mechanism. - Consists in providing multi-charge guns, especially those for anti-aircraft use, with one or more inclined auxiliary bores 3 entering the main axial bore 2 and adapted to be closed by the projectile 7 when the gun is loaded. After the firing of the main charge, the charges in the auxiliary bores are fired electrically by a pivoted switch 8, the end 10 of which lies in the path of and is operated by the projectile. The switch closes an electric circuit through primers 16, 17, so as to fire the auxiliary charges simultaneously.
