Abstract

806,193. Recoilless guns. BLACKER, L. V. S. March 17, 1955 [March 17, 1954], No. 7794/54. Class 92 A recoilless gun has a barrel 2, 6, Fig. 1, open at both ends and is arranged to discharge a projectile 1 from one end and a counter projectile or small shot 28 from the other end, the directions of discharge being inclined to one another at an angle of about 150 degrees. The front barrel 2 and chamber 4 are straight and in one piece, the rear barrel 6 being curved and supported by a foot 10. The front barrel and chamber are connected to the rear barrel by interrupted threads and are supported in a ring. 51 carried by arms 52, 54 extending from the rear barrel, loading being effected by giving the barrel 2 a quarter turn, sliding it forward in the ring 51 and then swinging it about pins 66 until the chamber 4 is sufficiently offset for loading. The projectiles which are of the form described in Specification 806,194, house an electrically-fired primer 34, Fig. 2, connected by one lead 38 to the gun barrel and by, another lead 40 to a contact ring 42 of metal foil mounted on a ring 44 of insulating material, these rings disintegrating on firing. The ring- 42 engages a plunger 46 extending through the chamber wall and the plunger and barrel are connected to a magneto operated by squeezing a front part 50 of a handle 14, Fig. 1. A contact 68 on the arm 54 makes contact with the outer end of the plunger 46 when the front barrel and chamber are fully screwed home, to complete the firing circuit from the magneto.
