593,790. Bomb projectors. CAMPBELL, H. Aug. 14, 1942, No. 4536/44. Divided out of 593,787. [Class 92 (ii)] Means for controlling the range of a bomb-throwing mortar comprises a sleeve J, L, having apertures which by a rotational movement of the sleeve can be brought into or out of register with apertures U in the barrel M on which it is mounted, thus permitting a controlled quantity of the gases to escape in a direction away from the breech end of the gun. In the construction shown, two large and two small apertures U are formed in the barrel and also in the inner wall L of the sleeve, and additional apertures V are provided to permit the escaping gases to pass into the barrel in front of the projectile. The sleeve is retained in any of its adjusted positions by a spring-controlled pin K carried by a bracket Y on a ring t mounted on the barrel. Specification 593,787 is referred to.
