556,020. Bomb throwers. SCHERMULY, C. D., SCHERMULY, A. J., and SCHERMULY, C. April 14, 1942, No. 4882. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] Bomb throwers or mortars of the type comprising an inclined barrel 1 with a tripod or like front support are provided with percussion firing mechanism arranged between the barrel and its rearward ground extension, the mechanism comprising a spring- controlled striker 13 arranged diametrically of the barrel and having a cone-shaped portion 16 for operating the firing pin 9. The striker is cocked into engagement with a sliding sear 17 against the action of the spring 21 by striking a knob 15, and the sear is released from a groove in the striker by pulling a trigger 18.
