832,436. Firing mechanisms for rocket launchers. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VON ERFINDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. Dec. 9, 1957 [Jan. 18, 1957], No. 38252/57. Class 92 The firing mechanism of a rocket launching weapon comprises a striker 16 on a hammer 15 pivoted at 22 and swung rearwardly after firing by the propulsive gases of the rocket against the action of a percussion spring 26, the hammer being held in the cocked position by a cocking sear 17 and a safety sear 18. A lock 20 pivoted at 40 has a latch portion 21 projecting into the barrel for securing the rocket in the barrel and is urged into this position by a spring 46. Withdrawal of the lock 20 from the barrel is effected either manually or automatically, on firing, by the hammer as shown in Fig. 5 or by the introduction of a rocket into the barrel, the arrangement being such that withdrawal of the lock brings the safety sear 18 into its active position. By operating a lever F the safety sear 18 is moved into inactive position shown in Fig. 4 and a nose 35 of this sear engages a pawl 36 on one end of a bell-crank lever 19 pivoted at 40 and having its other end 41 engaging in a recess 42 in the lock 20. On pressing the trigger 2, Fig. 2 (not shown) a transmission rod 11 moves an arm 32 of the cocking sear 17 to release the hammer 15 and a recess 23 on the hamber engages a finger 25 of the lock 20 to withdraw it from the barrel and free the rocket. Such withdrawal moves the arm 41 on the lever 19 downwardly and disengages the pawl 36 from the nose 35 of the sear 18 which comes into its active position and together with the sear 17 re-engage with the hammer. If a rocket is being inserted in the barrel when the mechanism is cocked, the downward movement of the lock 20 similarly causes the safety sear 18 to reengage with the hammer. To extract a rocket already put into position in the barrel, a lever S solid with the lever 19 is moved to move the arm 41 and hence the lock 20 downwardly to free the rocket. This again results in bringing the sear 18 into active position if it were not there previously. Finally, if after cocking the mechanism by actuating the lever F, it is desired to re-secure it, the lever S is operated to such an extent that the pawl 36 is freed from the nose 35 but the latch 21 of the lock 20 is not lowered, this being possible by means of the clearance available to the arm 41 in the recess 42.
