Abstract
671,873. Rocket-launching firearms. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VON ERFINGDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. July 3, 1950. [July 14, 1949] No. 16511/50. Class 92 (ii). Relates to firearms for launching self-propelled projectiles, of the kind comprising a barrel 1 open at the rear, trigger mechanism 4, a device 22 for holding the projectile in the barrel, and a mechanical percussion device which is automatically re-set by the direct action of the propellant gases on a strikercarrying hammer 25. According to the invention, the device 22 is freed by the hammer and can also be freed manually by at least one external member. The trigger of the gun shown imparts longitudinal movements to a spring-controlled rod 18 through the medium of a lever 11 which can be held against movement, when desired, by a catch 12. Rearward movement of the rod 18 against the action of its spring 33, Fig. 8, rocks a lever 39 which in turn rocks a lever 28 and permits the rocking of a lever 41. These two levers rock about the same pivot, are urged by springs into contact with cam surfaces on the lever 39, and are formed with catches which at different times, hold the hammer 25 in the retracted position shown. Normally the lever 28 alone, by its catch, holds the hammer, and when the trigger is pulled the lever is rocked to release the hammer which then rotates about a pin 30 under the action of a spring 27. During this motion of the hammer a pin 31 mounted upon it engages with a surface on the device 22 and rocks the latter so that its part 23 no longer holds the projectile. The hammer is held when it is driven back by the propellant gases to the position shown by the catch on the lever 41, but when the trigger is released the lever 39 enables the catches to reverse their positions, i.e. to return to the position shown. A pair of buttons integral with the device 22 and disposed one on either side of the casing housing the percussion mechanism, are provided for manually moving the device to an unlocking position. A pad 44 cushions the backward motion of the hammer. In a modification, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown) the device 22 pivots in a clockwise direction to release the projectile and in another modification, Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown) it is given a downward sliding movement.
