Abstract

670,109. Drop-down guns. WEBLEY & SCOTT, Ltd., and PERKS, H. June 21, 1950. [June 21, 1949] No. 16398/49. Class 119. A single barrel drop-down gun has lock mechanism in which only the hammer 11 has a pivoted anchorage in the action body, the hammer being actuated, both for its cocking and firing, by a spring 12 in conjunction with a spring casing 13 whose movements are controlled by a cocking lever 10. The casing 13 shown is of inverted channel form and houses the spring 12 one end of which bears on a pin 17 stretching between the channel walls while the other end engages a bent 11b in the hammer. The front end of the channel is engaged by the end 10a of the lever 10 and has its upper surface slotted for the passage of the hammer. After a shot has been fired, Fig. 1, the end 10a by its action on the casing 13 compresses the spring 12 but at the same time restrains the casing from acting on a pin 16 of the hammer to impart any turning movement to the hammer. On dropping the barrel, Fig. 2, the lever 10 is allowed to release the casing 13 to cock the hammer, and the hammer is held cocked by the trigger 9 while the barrel, lever 10 and casing 13 are returned to the positions shown in Fig. 1.
