[Classes 9 (ii), 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] A mortar for discharging rockets and signal cartridges comprises a barrel 2, the breech 1 of which is pivoted to a base-plate 4 so that the gun can be raised by a spring 5 to a predetermined firing position against a stop 10 in which position it is locked by a strut 7 urged upwardly by a spring 8 and engaging a notch 9 in the breech. The gun can be discharged by electric or percussion means either by hand or automatically as it reaches the firing position.
