Abstract
631,261. Ordnance. ZBROJOVKA, BRNO, NARODNI PODNIK. March 14, 1947, No. 7227. Convention date, March 14, 1946. [Class 92 (ii)] A projectile 5 is fired from a barrel 2, which is open at both ends, by a charge in a combustion chamber unit 1 which is axially slidable in the barrel on firing, the unit 1 having a base nozzle 6 and having its forward end closed except for an opening 7 to allow the passage of the propellant gases behind the projectile. The ratio of the cross-sectional areas of the nozzle 6 and opening 7 is so chosen that the unit 1 is held stationary in the barrel during the first stage of the combustion process, but is set in motion, to discharge it from the barrel, as soon as the projectile leaves the muzzle. A spring-catch 11, which is released by the effect of the gases, normally holds the unit 1 in position. The charge 1<SP>1</SP> is held in place by two grids 8. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a number of constructions in which the combustion chamber does not slide relatively to the barrel. As shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled) the combustion chamber 1 is integral with the barrel being separated from the loading chamber 4 by a wall 3 which has an opening 7 for the passage of the propellant gases. The rear wall of the chamber has the nozzle 6. In a modification the chamber 3 is separate from the barrel and is connected to it by a hinge. In another modification a portion of the propellant charge is located in front of the wall 3. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
