Abstract
347,883. Smallarms adapted to discharge bombs. SOC. ITAL. E. BREDA, 9, Via Bordoni, Milan, Italy. April 30, 1930, No. 13338. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1929. [Class 119.] A small-arm, such as a rifle, adapted for throwing bombs and grenades, and of the type in which the gases from a cartridge are deviated towards a supplementary discharge chamber, has the barrel adjustable longitudinally so that the amount of the gas deviated can be regulated. The gases from a bulleted cartridge 12 are led to the supplementary barrel 13 by a passage 15. The rifle barrel 2 is screw-threaded into a sleeve 7 rigidly secured to the fixed cartridge chamber 1 and is longitudinally displaceable by rotation thereof to vary the width of the gap 16 between the end of the barrel and the fixed chamber. By this means, the amount of gas deviated into the barrel 13 can be regulated. The means for rotating the barrel comprises a spurwheel 8 integral therewith which meshes with a toothed sleeve 9 loosely mounted on the barrel 13. A beaded ring 10 integral with the sleeve 9 facilitates the manual rotation thereof. In the rearmost position of the barrel, the gap 16 is eliminated and the weapon may be used as an ordinary firearm.
