Abstract

128,824. Lyon, A. J. Oat. 24, 1918. Barrels; recoil, modifying.-Consists in providing a pistol barrel with vents or by-passes near the cartridge chamber to allow a portion of the gases to escape, whereby more powerful cartridges than those for which the pistol was designed can be fired therefrom without undue kick or danger. In the construction shown, vents d are made in the barrel just in front of the chamber, and the barrel is surrounded by a casing e so that the gases may pass along the space between the casing and the barrel. In a modification, the rifling grooves are deepened to act as by-passes.
