Abstract

20,277. Fitzpatrick, H. D., [Soc. Anon. des Fabriques d'Armes RÚunies]. Sept. 4. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; breech actions, sliding barrel and breech-block.-It is admitted that an automatic pistol having the barrel mounted at the front end only is already known, but it is pointed out that in such weapon the barrel both recoils and rotates, and the front of the bolt, which is formed as a sleeve surrounding the barrel, is enclosed and guided in a fixed casing. According to the invention, the barrel, which is also mounted at the front end only, is either fixed or capable of sliding, only without rotation, and the rear part forms a guide for the tubular front extension of the bolt, which is not enclosed in a casing. Fig. 2 shows a pistol having a fixed barrel 1, which is screwed into a plug 31 in a fixed socket 2. A flange 12 at the front of the tubular extension 6 of the bolt 5 forms the abutment for the recoil spring 13. The bolt is guided at the rear by a fixed socket 11. Fig. 10 shows in plan a modification having a recoiling barrel, the plug 40, in which the barrel is screwed, being capable of a limited movement in the socket 2 against a spring 18. In this case also there is no positive lock, the recoil of the barrel being for the purpose of absorbing some of the energy of recoil.
