Breech action, sliding breech-block.-In a boltaction rifle having a non- rotary bolt head, such as is described in Specifica tion No. 1000, A.D. 1907, the extractor d carried by the bolt head a' is wholly or partly covered by a hood or shield e. The hood is either formed integral with the bolt head as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or is formed in a separate piece which is attached in any suitable manner as shown in Fig. 11. The recess which receives the end of the extractor when the breech is closed is formed with a vent c<4>. The invention is especially suitable for rifles firing miniature ammunition.
