Abstract

[Addition to 4354/08.] Combined or convertible open fire-places and cooking-stoves.-In combined domestic grates and cooking-stoves of the type described in the parent Specification, a rear flue a replaces the side flues there shown, and is fitted with a damper g operated automatically by the raising or lowering of the hot-plate l. Quadrant guides are provided to check the fall of the hot-plate if suddenly released, and to enable it to be retained in two or more inclined positions. An inclined flue e passes through the fire-brick back d, which preferably has a cast-iron upper part f. The damper g, pivoted at g<1>, is operated by a rod j having a short projecting lug k and a longer one k<1>. A notch at one corner of the hot-plate engages the rear lug k<1> to close the damper and the forward lug k to open it. The hot-plate has a slot in one of its edges passing over and engaging the upper surface of a projecting quadrant m, which may have one or more notches o to hold the hot-plate in various positions, thus allowing the damper g, and the known damper p, to be open to various extents. The pivots of the hot-plate are loose, to enable it to fall behind the quadrant or into engagement with the notches.
