The lever is actuated by a key inserted into a keyhole d to engage a fork k on its lower end. Keyholes, obstructing.-The keyhole d is normally closed by an outside escutcheon plate b secured on the handle spindle, the spindle being always allowed free movement in a direction opposite to that in which it operates the bolt, so that the escutcheon can be turned to expose the keyhole.
