Locks, key; latches.-A door lock has a latch bolt B and a lock bolt D, the latter being shot when the former is independently operated by closing the door, but being undisturbed when the handle and spindle H<1> are used to operate the lock. The spindle H<1> and follower h<1> are divided vertically, the handle on the inside of the door and its follower operating a sliding bar G, and the outside one a saddle bar G<1> sliding on the bar G. The latter has arms g, g<1> which engage with pins b<8>, d<6> on the bolts and retract both if necessary when the inside handle is operated, the saddle bar being held by a pawl K. To permit the bolts to be operated from the outside, a key L is first inserted to disengage the pawl K from the saddle bar G<1>, and, on the outside handle being turned, the saddle bar is moved and operates the sliding bar by a pin g<5> and slot g<6>, to retract the bolts. The lock bolt is normally held retracted by a pawl E, but on operating the latch bolt by closing the door without using the handle and bar G, a lever F, pivoted at f<1> on the bar and engaging with a pin b<7> on the latch bolt, disengages the pawl from the lock bolt and allows the latter to be shot by a spring d. Semicircular pieces b<3>, d', with lugs b<5>, d<3> respectively, may be moved to hold either or both bolts in a retracted position, the lugs engaging with notches in the bolts.
