Locks, key and permutation.-For safe, stong-room, and other doors a combined permutation and key lock is used, the permutation mechanism providing means both for blocking the bolt of the key look and for closing the keyhole thereof. The key lock is of any ordinary type with a bolt H and keyhole j; the permutation mechanism comprises locking- disksCco-operating with a lever arm G which is provided with a projection g adapted to be brought against the end of the bolt as shown, and which carries a shield G' adapted to cover the keyhole j. When the disks C are correctly set, the arm G turns under the action of a spring K and uncovers the keyhole j and brings the projection g opposite the slot h in the bolt H, after which the latter can be withdrawn by the key. The combination can be changed, when the bolt is withdrawn, by a key inserted into the keyhole j and adapted to engage the shoulder g<1> of the arm G and turn this arm further, the projection g entering the transverse slot h<1> in the bolt ; this movement disengages the disks C from the knob disks D, after which these can be set to any new combination. An extension of the bolt H on one side of the slot h prevents the combination from being changed before the bolt is withdrawn. The permutation mechanism may be used with a lock the bolt of which is withdrawn by other than a key, and in this case a special keyhole may be provided to enable the combination to be changed.
