Abstract

17,303. Chadinoff, J., Melikoff, J., and Abramovitch, M. July 28. Latches, sliding; latches, preventing operation of.-The latch-bolt 1 is held in the withdrawn position, when the dour is open, by means of a vertically - moving slide 4 which rests on the shank 6 of an auxiliary bolt 2 and engages a notch 20 in the pin 9 of the latch 1. When the door is slammed, the bolt 2 is pressed in, bring- ing a notch 5 under the slide 4, which falls and releases the latch. The slide 4 engages a notch 10 in the pin 9 of the latch when this is shot, but is disengaged by a cam 30 on the follower 17 when this is turned to withdraw the latch. On the inside of the door, a collar 23 is arranged on the handle spindle and can be secured by a slide 26 engaging notches 24, 25 in the collar to prevent actuation of the latch from outside. Night - latches. - The construction shown in Fig. 10 is adapted for operation from inside by a handle operating the follower 31 and from outside by a key. The key is designed to actuate a follower arm 40 for withdrawing the bolt, the key-bit first acting on the projection 36 of the slide 4 to disengage this from the notch 10 of the latch 1. Afterwards, the key-bit actuates a lever 41 to press the slide 4 into engagement with the notch 20 and hold the latch withdrawn until the door is slammed.
