Abstract
24,829. Popesco, G. Dec. 13. Locks, key.-To prevent the main bolt of a lock for a plate chest, safe, &c. from being withdrawn even when the principal parts of the lock are torn off the door, the front guide-plate for the bolt A is made in two parts a, b, with an interspace a' in which a locking-slide b<1> travels and is pressed upwards by a spring c<1> to cause the lower edge d<1> of its opening e<1> to engage in a transverse groove f<1> of the bolt. A known form of lock is shown in which the bolt, operated by a key and cam f, can only be withdrawn after operating tumblers q by a second key to release a projection n of a slide p, which can then be moved from the hinder end of the bolt on turning the cam f. When the slide p is moved, the free end h<1> of a projecting arm i<1> of the slide engages a recess g<1> in the slide b<1> and releases the edge d' from the groove f<1>. When the bolt is shot, the projection n passes behind it, the slide p moves upwards, and its arm i<1> allows the slide b<1> to enter the groove f<1>.
