Cooking-stoves; grates; smoke-consuming.-The grate of a cooking-range is fitted with a vertical grating through which part of the combustion products passes away, while the greater part, after circulating around the oven, pasess up behind the grating and is consumed there. The grating 6 is in the back of the grate, and the course of the combustion products around the oven is shown by the arrows E. After passing around the oven, they enter a chamber behind the ash-pit and are deflected towards the grating 6 by a baffle 9. A shutter 5, closing an aperture in the partition 3, may be withdrawn to allow the combustion products to pass away to the chimney 10.
