Abstract

17,104. Roux, C. J. Aug. 4. Cooking &c. stoves; smoke, consuming; ; grates; casings; flues. -To consume the smoke, the products of incomplete combustion are drawn from over the fire through side flues or the like into a secondary combustion chamber, and are compelled to pass through a sheet of flame drawn from the body of the incandescent fuel by the draught through apertures leading from the grate to the combustion chamber. Fig. 10 shows the grate of a cooking-range modified according to the invention. The products of incomplete combustion pass over the edges of the grate a, as shown by the arrow, and thence to the flues f<1>and the combustion chamber e, into which a sheet of flame issues through the apertures d. The grate bottom is formed with a prolongation n, and the cinders &c. which fall through the bars constituting it are discharged by opening the counterweighted door o. Fig. 13 shows a closed stove in which a small grate n is fitted to prevent the fuel from passing into the casing f. Figs. 15 and 16 show a stove in which apertures s are made in the sides of the fuel holder or hopper p, and the combustion products pass through them as well as over the edges of the hopper and through the aperture d. The flues f<2> lead into inclined flues f, and thence to the apertures f at the base of the combustion chamber e. The stove is closed by a mica front. The apertures f<1> may be placed below the aperture d, and kept clear by a small grate like that shown at n, Fig. 13. The bottom of the main grate of this stove consists of two parts t, t<1>, Fig. 19, the middle part t<1> being mounted on pivots on the outer part The whole grate may be moved horizontally by a loose handle y, and the middle part may be rocked so as to uncover more or less of the opening d, Fig. 16.
