Abstract
9751. Edwards, E. M. May 9. Slow-combustion stoves; smoke-consuming; blowers or drawplates.-The stove is provided with a sliding blower F, which serves to operate the pivoted damper H. The front K of the stove forms a receptacle for the blower. A brick back B is provided for the stove, between which back and the rear casing a flue C is formed which communicates with a grating A. The conical perforated grating A, upon which the fuel is placed, acts as a fueleconomizer. When the fire is first started, the ashpan D is drawn out and the blower F lowered, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby obtaining a direct draught to the chimney. When the fire is thoroughly started, the ashpan D is closed and the blower F is raised, thereby lowering the damper H, as shown in Fig. 3. This causes all the products of combustion to pass through the grate and up the flue C to the chimney, whereby the smoke is consumed. By closing the blower it acts as a screen and sparks &c. are prevented from entering the room.
