Arrangement Or Mounting Of Propulsion Units For Vehicles
(AREA)
Abstract
10,882. Mackenzie, J. W., [Blomstrom Manufacturing Co.]. May 19. Motor road vehicles.- In an arrangement of motor and friction-disk variable-speed gearing, the motor is arranged with its crank-shaft vertical and the fly - wheel drives the friction pulley, which is arranged upon the longitudinal shaft and may be lowered out of contact with the fly-wheel. The engine A, Fig. 1, of the two - cyclinder opposed type, is arranged with the fly - wheel C underneath and forming the driving- member of the friction gearing. The pulley F may be shifted along the shaft E to vary the speed by the arm T, sliding rod S, and connexions to hand-lever R. The shaft E is mounted in bearings in a casing G, which may be raised and lowered for the purpose of engaging and disengaging the gear. The casing is supported by eccentrics mounted on rotatable cross shafts H, H<1> connected so as to turn together and actuated through a spring from the pedal P. The shaft E drives the longitudinal shaft V through the universal joint X, the whole being enclosed in an outer casing. The engine may be started by a spindle Y and bevel-gear.
