22,307. Soc. R. Bourbeau & H. Devaux. Nov. 10, 1913, [Convention date]. Variable-speed friction gearing for motorvehicles comprises friction gears c, c<1>. c<2> secured to the engine shaft. These are adapted to be engaged alternatively by gears d, d<1>, d<2> upon a shaft e, which is moved longitudinally to vary the speed by way of a fork h. The shaft c is supported on arms g pivoted to a fixed shaft f, and a rod i keeps any pair of gears in engagement or thrusts the gears apart in changing speed. Reversed driving may be effected by an additional idle external or internal gear, or by a belt encircling the gears c, d. The drive may be transmitted from the shaft e by a pair of belts l.
