Abstract

Variable-speed toothed gearing comprises nested sleeves I, L formed with toothed gears N, K and dog clutch ends J, M supported by a shaft A, which has a clutch end H and is adapted to be moved longitudinally. A driving-shaft D carries clutch teeth E extending radially opposite the members H, J, M, and carries also a gear C. The shaft A has a feathered connexion with a driven shaft G so that it may be slid to bring the members H, E into engagement for direct driving. Gears R, Q, P, R<1> are secured to a fixed countershaft B. and a gear F is secured to the shaft G. To effect reduced speeds, the sleeves I, L are slid so as to engage the member E alternatively, the drive passing through gears K, Q, R, F, or through gears N, P, R, F. To effect reversed driving, the gears C, R<1> are connected through a movable idler R<2>.
