Abstract

184,246. Sanguinetti, E. G. May 3, 1921. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid) Rod couplings and joints.- The tubes to be joined, as for example A, B, C, Figs. 1 and 2, are flattened at the inter-engaging parts, and formed with conical or cup-shaped depressions which are assembled as shown in Fig. 2. A bolt D is passed centrally through the cups to lock the parts together in a detachable manner. This arrangement relieves the bolt of the shear strains due to the longitudinal stresses in the members of the framework. To prevent rotation of the jointed members about the bolt D, they may each be provided with two depressions, as shown in Fig. 4. Strengthening liners are preferably inserted in the tube ends prior to flattening. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 14266/97, [Class 136, Velccipedes], 25677/10, [Class 83 (iv), Metals, Working], 8002/13, 155,204, [Class 83 (iv), Metals, Working], and 158,087.
