Abstract
183,105. Soc. l'Oxylithe. July 9, 1921, [Convention datc]. Blowpipe burners. - In an oxyacetylene or like blowpipe burner of the type in which the oxygen injection nozzle is controlled by a plug or needle valve, the oxygen injection nozzle 8 and the fuel induction nozzle 22 are relatively fixed but are both movable axially in respect to a fixed plug or needle 4 carried by the rear wall of a chamber 3. The needle 4 is formed with guide ribs 6 so as to ensure axial alignment between the needle and the nozzles 8, 22. The nozzle 8 is carried by a sleeve 10 which is slidable axially in the burner body 11 hut is prevented from rotating by a key 12. Oxygen passes from an inlet 1 through ducts 2 to the chamber 3 and on issuing from the nozzle 8 induces a flow of acetylene through an orifice 18 in the sleeve 10 from an inlet 19 on the body 11. The mixture then passes through the nozzle 22, the sleeve 10 and a duct 21 to the burner outlet. A socket 14 attached to the body 11 carries a rotatable cap 15 screwing on the sleeve 10. The nozzles 8, 22 are adjusted to vary the flow of oxygen and acetylene by rotating the cap 15 thereby moving axially the sleeve 10. Stuffing-boxes are provided at the ends of the body 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the regulation of the oxygen may also be effected by screwing the sleeve 10 into the body 11 or by making the plug 4 axially adjustable. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
