Abstract
627,133. Blowpipe burners. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. May 12, 1947, No. 12815. Convention date, June 7, 1946. [Class 75(i)] [Also in Group XXII] A blowpipe nozzle for producing wide cuts has an axial oxygen passage 11 comprising an inlet portion 21 of constant diameter, a frusto-conical central portion 22, an outlet portion having a constant diameter substantially twice that of the inlet portion, and a baffle 24 at the junction of the frusto-conical and outlet portions having a central axially extending orifice 25 and an annularly arranged series of orifices, the axes of which diverge downstream with respect to the longitudinal axis of the nozzle. A series of preheat or combustible gas passages 13 are annularly disposed about the passage 11 and communicate at their inlet ends with an annular groove 14 which forms a gas distributing chamber with part of the blowpipe head to which the nozzle is attached by a coupling nut 19. A process for making wide flamemachining or flame-desurfacing cuts on a metal surface is described, which comprises directing a stream of oxygen from the nozzle at an angle to a highly heated surface portion and moving the nozzle relatively to the surface.
