Abstract

493,088. Blowpipe burners. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. April 16, 1937, No. 10841. Convention date, May 19, 1936. [Class 75 (i)] In a blowpipe burner nozzle, the end 29 of an inner member B projects into the orifice 17 of an outer member A to provide an annular outlet 30 and the members are secured together by wedging longitudinal tapered ribs 34 on the inner member into a conical portion 18 of the bore of the outer member so as to maintain uniform the width of the outlet 30. As shown in Fig. 3, the end 29 is reduced to provide a gas chamber 32 and a boss 38 on an integral apertured flanged collar 36 of the member B engages in a deeper counterbore 20 in the member A to centralize the rear end of the member B and form a gas chamber 43. The nozzle is secured by a cap nut N to a head H, conical sealing surfaces 48, 49 being provided. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, the inner member B is of uniform internal diameter and is formed with an external annular groove 55 opposite a cylindrical portion 54, of the bore of the member A<1> to provide the chainber 32<1>. When used for cutting metals, a mixture of acetylene and oxygen may be supplied to the annular outlet 30 and the cutting oxygen through the central passage. For welding or flame hardening, the combustible mixture is supplied through the central passage and another gas, such as an inert gas, to the annular outlet.
