Abstract

167,388. Eustege, T. P. Aug. 3, 1920. Stays of the kind in which the stay member is slidable on a rod, and with which it assumes a position parallel therewith when the sash is closed, are provided with a slidable locking - member adapted to engage with a bracket on the window frame to secure the sash in the closed position. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, one end of the stay bar 1 is slotted to slide on a pin 8 provided with a clamping-nut 14 to hold the stay arm in an adjusted positon. The pin 8 is formed to engage a vertical rod 10 on the sash frame, the rod being mounted at its lower end in a bracket member 12, Fig. 5. One end of the stay bar 1 is universally jointed to the bracket 3 of the window, and near this end is provided a plate 17 slidable by a handle 19 so as to be moved into engagement with slot 24 when the casement is closed. The lower end of the member 17 has bevelled edges, and a. spring may be provided to secure automatic engagement with the bracket 12. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 6 and 9, the stay bar is formed in two parts 1, 30 provided with an additional clamping device 32. When the sash is closed, the rod 30 engages a notch 35 in the bracket 12 and the end of the rod 1 is moved into engagement with a slot 36. In a further modification, the rod 10 is carried by the casement sash, and is arranged horizontally.
