Abstract
258,119. Redmond, J. Feb. 24, 1926. Stays.-In a combined stay and fastener in which a slotted stay-bar 8 is releaseable from a catch 16 on the fixed frame when the casement window, door, or like hinged member is closed, the stay-bar is arranged to pivot in both a vertical and horizontal plane so that it may be turned alongside the window when the latter is closed and engage with a peg or catch 20 on the frame of the window. The stay-bar is pivoted at 9 to a link pivotally mounted at 10 on a bracket 11 on the frame 12, and it is provided with holes or notches 24 for engagement with the catch 16 projecting from a bracket 15 on the window. One of these notches, 25, is sufficiently large for the release of the stay-bar when the latter is turned about its vertical pivot 10. The catch may be a spring-pressed bolt 18 with a squared shoulder 19 for engagement with the notches 24, as shown in Fig. 2, or, as shown in a modification, the part 18 may be screw-threaded. When the window is closed, it is secured by the peg 20 and by the catch 16 engaging the end notch in the stay-bar.
