Abstract

327,221. Knightsmith, W. L. St. J. Jan. 23, 1929. Sliding doors.-A sliding door or each section thereof is suspended from a single pulley 22 on an overhead rail 13 in such a manner that it can rotate about a vertical axis relative to the. pulley. The pulley bracket 21 is connected to the door by means of a spherically-headed bolt 18 and spherically-laced nut 20 with lock nut and a split pin. The bolt 18 is held by a strap 17 embracing the upper edge of the door. To lock the door sections one of them 12 is first secured to the floor, lintel, and jamb by three sliding bars 32, 29, 27 connected to a plate 30 pivoted on the door and actuated bv a lever 25 for the purpose of engaging or disengaging the bolts. The next section 11 is secured to a plate 12<a> on the section 12 by a pivoted catch 38 actuated by a handle outside the door. The last section is also secured to the jamb by a sliding bar 40 actuated by the bars 38. To prevent opening of the doors the handle is slotted to engage a pin or an angle bar sunk in the section 12 and is secured by a padlock. Stops 23 are provided for the closed and open positions. The doors may be hollow the bolts being located in the interior hollow space. The bolts may be spring actuated and releasable by lever or the doors may be secured by pressing sideways against springs into recesses in the jambs before bolting.
