Abstract

159,327. Shiga, H. Nov. 27, 1919. Stoppers, bayonet-joint.-Relates to closures for bottles, jars, &c. of the kind comprising a double cap, the inner or sealing member of which is shouldered to seat upon a compressible washer on a shoulder on the bottle neck, while the outer or locking member bears upon the crown of the sealing cap and is provided with inward projections to engage under the inclined bottom edges of lugs on the bottle neck. The inner sealing-cap 4 and the outer locking-cap 7 are produced from sheet metal, and the inner cap has a skirt 14 depending below its shoulder 5 to fit closely over the larger diameter of the vessel neck whilst the outer cap has a skirt 17 to fit closely over the skirt 14., the catches 8 for engaging the neck lugs 2 being formed upon the lower edge of the skirt. The skirt 14 of the inner cap may be grooved or thinned immediately below the shoulder 5 to enable the lower part of the skirt to be removed by means of an opener or key which may be carried between the tops of the two caps. The crown of the outer cap may have a central perforation, to economize material.
