Abstract

156,105. Maschinenfabrik Augsburg- Nurnberg Atk.-Ges. Dec. 27, 1919, [Convention date]. Compression - engines.- In a double-acting engine, the end of the cylinder through which the pistonrod passes works upon a two-stroke cycle, the other end working upon a twostroke or a four-stroke cycle. According to the construction shown in Fig. 1, the upper end of the cylinder has the usual inlet and exhaust valves and a fuel admission valve e and works upon a four-stroke cycle. Terminal inlet and exhaust ports are formed in the wall of the lower end of the cylinder, and a compressedair starting-valve l and a pair of fuel-injection valves f are located in the cover b. When a two-stroke cycle occurs in the upper end of the cylinder, terminal exhaust ports are provided, and two air-admission valves are mounted in the cylinder head.
