Abstract
155,159. Battey, A. P. March 19, 1920. Stays.-In hinged stays of the type wherein two links such as E, G, Fig. 1, are pivoted together as at F and at their free ends are pivoted to the framework of a collapsible hood for a vehicle, baby-carriage &c., the second link G is pivoted at H to a third link J which is pivoted to the frame A at K. This link is provided with a lever and handle L for operating it. The hood is shown fully extended. To lower, the lever L is swung in a clockwise direction, thereby decreasing the effective length of the stay and causing the hood to collapse. In extending the hood, the action of the link J is to give a further extension to the stay beyond its main extension. Modifications involving the use of an eccentric, or of an arrangement involving the use of pins sliding in slots are described. The third link may alternatively be pivoted at F or D. A stop N on the lever arm of the third link engages with a lug M on the link G to prevent the stay-bar from moving past its fully extended position.
