Abstract

145,927. Canton, G. T. May 12, 1919. Spray carburettors.-Fuel is delivered through nozzles f carried by a part g which is rotated by the air entering at b impinging on blades g<1>. The part g is secured at its upper end to a spindle, the pointed ends g<2>, g<3> of which rotate in bearings h<1>, h<2>, whilst at its lower end it rotates over a fixed fuel-inlet pipe d connected to the float chamber c. To prevent escape of fuel, a helical groove, d<3> is formed in the upper part of the pipe d. The bearing h<1> is supported by a cross-piece a<1>. Fuel reaches the nozzle outlets by way of passages d<1>, d<2>. A conoidal member i in the upper part of the casing serves to increase the velocity of the mixture. In a modification, the blades are at the lower end of the rotating part which extends to the bottom of the pipe, d, the nozzle outlets are fitted with gauze thimbles, the main air inlet is controlled by an adjustable, automatic spring-loaded valve, and a supplementary tangential air inlet in the plane of the blades may bo used at starting and for slow running.
