Abstract

143,113. Farris, J. F. Aug. 29, 1919. Automatic speed control.-In a variable-speed gear of the disk-and-roller type for motor vehicles, of the kind described in Specification 114,711, [Class 80 (ii) Gearing, variable-speed &c.], a movable roller is actuated by a governor C on the driving-shaft A, and one or other of the driven disks E, F is coupled by a clutch J to a transverse shaft which transmits power to the wheels. The gearing gives direct and reverse speeds, and free engine in the neutral position of the clutch. The disks are pressed against the rollers by spring-actuated levers K. The disks E, F are supported by an idle roller D<1>.
