Abstract

1415415 Grain oriented silicon steel ALLEGHENY LUDLUM INDUSTRIES Inc 27 Sept 1973 [28 Sept 1972 7 May 1973] 45322/73 Heading C7A A silicon steel of composition:- C - 0.02 to 0.07% Mn equivalent (%Mn + 0.1 to 0.25%Cu) - 0.05 to 0.24 such that the ratio of manganese equivalent to sulphur is from 2 to 4.75. The steel may be prepared by casting into rigid form hot rolling subjecting the hot rolled steel to at least 1400 F for 10 seconds to 30 minutes, annealing and thereafter processing to produce a cube on edge texture in the grain oriented steel. Exemplified treatments include hot rolling the steel, optionally soaking for 1 hour at 2500‹F, optionally holding for 2 minutes at 1650 F or for 30 minutes at 1850‹F, surface conditioning the steel, optionally rolling to an intermediate gauge, normalizing for five minutes at 1875 to 1905 F or 1960 to 2010‹F in a H 2 -N 2 protective atmosphere, cold rolling and normalizing for 1 minute at 1475‹C in a decarburizing atmosphere, optionally coating with MgO slurry for desulphurization and finally annealing at 2150‹F.
