Abstract

1,197,800. Heat-treating silicon steel. ARMCO STEEL CORP. Sept. 1, 1967 [Sept. 30, 1966], No.40114/67. Heading C7A. [Also in Division B3] Cube-on-edge oriented silicon iron sheet or strip containing no more than 0À0045% O 2 and 1À8-4% Si, is formed by heating the iron at 2100- 2400‹ F. prior to hot rolling, after which the iron is cold rolled, decarburized and annealed to cause cube-on-edge nuclei growth. The iron containing 0À03-0À08% Mn, 0À015-0À03% S, 0À015-0À035% C, 0À007% max N 2 , 0À008% max Al is annealed after hot rolling at 1650-2000‹ F. and cold rolled from 0À080 or 0À076 inches to 0À012 inches or less with or without an interstage anneal of 1550-1850‹ F. After decarburizing at 1500‹ F. for 3 mins in wet hydrogen, the strip is finally annealed at at least 2000‹ F. for at least 8 hrs. Sulphur or selenium may be added to the strip. Specific examples are described.
