Abstract

A method of manufacturing thin ferro-magnetic sheet of low coercive force and high permeability by using a rimmed low carbon steel having the following analysis: C 0.05 to 0.10%; Mn 0.20 to 0.50%; S max 0.035;% max 0.020% and balance iron, is characterized in that after a first hot rolling, a first cold thickness reduction of from 40 to 80% and a first annealing at a temperature from 650 DEG to 750 DEG C., the steel is subjected to a second cold thickness reduction of between 2 and 5% and to a second annealing at a constant temperature between 730 and 780 DEG C. In an embodiment a hot rolled band of rimmed low carbon steel within the above analysis and having a thickness of about 2mm. is pickled and cold rolled to a thickness of about 0.5mm. The band is then annealed at a fixed temperature between 650 and 750 DEG C. and soaked at this temperature for 15 to 20 hours. After annealing the thickness is reduced by 2 to 5% by cold rolling and the band is cut into sheets which are annealed at a constant temperature between 730 and 780 DEG C. e.g. 750 DEG C. for 20 to 25 hours. The sheets have a high permeability and a low coercive force of from 0.70 to 0.80 oersted.
