Abstract
1,027,158. Producing metal sheet; altering physical properties. YAWATA IRON & STEEL CO. Ltd. Nov. 21, 1962 [Dec. 2, 1961], No. 44032/62. Headings B3A and B3V. A process for producing steel sheets to be deep drawn includes hot rolling an ingot, normalizing the resulting coil at or just above the A 3 point, after an optional cold rolling step, cold rolling the normalized steel with a 40- 80% reduction, and then annealing it. In an example a sheet of percentage composition 0À09 C, 0À007 Si, 0À39 Mn, 0À018 P, 0À017 S, 0À08 Cu and balance Fe, was hot rolled, normalized from 950 C., cold rolled 30-80% and annealed at 650 C. for 2 hours in an atmosphere containing 5% CO 2 , 10À5% CO, 0À5% CH 4 , 12À5% H 2 , 0À8% H 2 O and balance N<SP>2</SP> with a dew point of 5 C. Normalizing may take place in an inert gas, molten salt, molten metal or an oxydizing gas. The grain size and physical properties of the resulting steel make it suitable for deep drawing.
