Abstract

1414774 Valves UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Jan 1973 [6 Nov 1971] 51686/71 Heading F2V An inlet valve for a gas manifold has a set of apertures in the closure member 16 to provide more than one rate of gas flow to an appliance to be controlled. The member co-operates with a seat 13 at the lower end of a housing 11 and is connected to a spindle which passes through a bore 18. Rotation of the member by a detachable lever engaged in a connector rigid with the valve spindle enables either four apertures 19 to be brought into register with the seat for normal operation or a single aperture 20 for economy operation. A cap on the end of the spindle allows the disc to be separated by axial movement from the end of the housing to boost the flow. The number and diameter of the apertures may be altered for use with natural gas or to give a series of different values of reduced flows. In a further embodiment, a circular section passage at the lower end of the housing receives a valve similar to the disc 16 while a second disc without apertures moves axially in relation to the end of the housing to serve as an on/off valve, the two discs being mounted on the same spindle with a spring tending to hold them apart. The valve may be used with the appliance described in Specification 1,357,141.
