Magnetic lifting-apparatus.-A heavy ferrous object is raised by electro-magnets e carried by pulleys d supported by a rope b, which is secured at its ends f to a bar a and passed round pulleys c on the bar. The loops in the rope may be taken up by a windlass so as to bed the magnets on chocks carried by the bar. The bar is connected to hoisting-gear or may form a component element of any structure, e.g. a pontoon.
