Abstract
127,144. Smith, F. W. July 9, 1918. Boat raising and lowering gear. - A boatlowering gear, of the kind in which the usual falls are connected by a rope so that the lower blocks are pulled towards one another when no boat is on the falls, has a spring device inserted in the rope connexion. In the form shown, the spring 15 is arranged between a piston on a spindle 14 coupled by a rope 10 to the axle of one pulley, and the end of a cylinder 12 connected to the axle of the other pulley-block. As shown in dotted lines, the connexion may be made to upstanding horns 17 on the metal binding-plates of the blocks. In a modification, the connexion is made to members provided with rollers running on the fall-ropes, and, in a further form, the cylinder is supported from the block by a series of links fitted with spring hinges. Metal blocks comprising parallel side plates may have the cylinder pivoted between them.
